    American School for the Deaf

    This was the first school created for disabled children. Thomas Hopkins Gallaudet met a doctors deaf daughter and then was inspired to learn the art of teaching deaf children. He then found a professional teacher and asked him to come back home with him to help him with his dream.

    Law Mandating Compulsory Education

    This law was passed in Rhode Island in the 1840s and it helped a lot of families. This stated that kids are to receive education no matter what and it should be covered by the government. This allowed those that could not afford education for their kids be able to give them the education they deserved.

    This was the first group that advocated for kids with all types of disabilities. They help these kids do their best in fulfilling their important goals. They also want to make education the best it can be for them.

    Brown v. Board of Education

    This law established no segregation of color in schools. They stated it was against the constitution. This was a big step in moving forward with racial issues.
  • Elementary and Secondary Education Act

    Elementary and Secondary Education Act

    This act offered loans to those who couldn’t afford to pay for their education in the moment. They did their best to offer the best educational opportunities to poor children. This was not for all children, but specially for those that needed it the most because they had so little.

    This allowed all children with disabilities to have free education. This was for kids of all ages and it was very helpful for those families thy could not afford to pay for their education. This allowed disabled kids to receive the help they needed

    Americans with Disabilities Act

    This act bans all discrimination towards those with disabilities in most places. This helped more kids get into schools and more adults find jobs. This allowed those with disabilities to feel more comfortable everywhere they went.
  • No Child Left Behind Act

    No Child Left Behind Act

    This law allowed for schools to take responsibility for how the kids learned and succeeded in school. There was issues with this law specifically for the schools. As long as the teachers pushed to do their best to help the students, the students would achieve what they needed to.
