National curriculum assessments known as SATs introduced for Year 2 Key Stage 1 for year ending July 1991.
This was followed by SATs for year 6 key stage 2 in 1995 and year 9 key stage 3 in 1998.
I was in the school year just before this and so I remember doing the trial SATs in year 6 and year 9.
The SATs for year 9 were scrapped after July 2009 -
