The earthquake that produced the waves was so great that waves 4m high hit the Caribbean Islands. After the disaster, the first crisis management system was setup to recover the damaged buildings and injured people. -
Krakatoa Eruption
It was not an earthquake, but a massive landslide that generated huge waves killing 36,000 people. The eruption was the loudest noise we have ever heard in recorded history. The collapse of half of the island generated 130ft waves that landed in places from Indonesia the India, and other Southeast Asian countries. -
Aleutian Earthquake, Alaska
Magnitude of 8.1 and caused at least 160 deaths. The tsunami was so powerful at the Aleutian islands that the people there had nothing to warn anyone else in the pacific with or they were dead. The tsunami was so powerful that it hit Hawaii killing some and destroying the beaches there. If the people who were hit first in alaska were able to warn Hawaii, the people there wouldn't have been near the beach. Therefore saving some lives. -
Great Chilean Earthquake
Magnitude of 9.5 and took 61 lives. This tsunami didn't kill many compared to others, but it is one of the most powerful because of the magnitude and the damage the earthquake and its tsunami did to the cities. -

In Alaska with a magnitude of 9.2 and death toll of 130. It is the most powerful US earthquake ever recorded at the magnitude of 9.2. -
Hokkaido Earthquake
With a magnitude of 7.8 and 120 killed. The tsunami generated by this earthquake hit dozens of inhabited islandsin the pacific. It destroyed many villages. -
Papua New Guinea Quake
This magnitude 7.1 earthquake induced tsunami led to the deaths of 2100 people. It consisted of three waves, the second being the largest and most damaging. -
Sumatra Earthquake
The magnitude 9.1 earthquake off the coast of Indonesia created a tsunami and killed 230,000 people. Indonesia was not the only place hit, India was hit and other southeastern Asian countries. -
Samoa Earthquake
There was a magnitude 8.1 earthquake that generated a tsunami and killed 200 people that lived in the Samoan islands. The earthquake was an uncommon one because it was an outer-rise earthquake. Meaning that the earthquake wasn't exactly on the fault. -
Chile Earthquake
A magnitude 8.8 earthquake took place of the coast of Chile, forming a tsunami that all together took the lives of 700 people. It was one of, if not the strongest tsunamis in the Pacific Ocean since 1960. -
Tohoku Earthquake
The magnitude 9.1 earthquake generated tsunamis killed at least 20,000 people. The waves went over the sea wall that was protecting the Fukoshima nuclear reactor, flooding it and causing it to melt down. Over 200,000 people had to be evacuated from their homes and haven't returned since.
