    Proclamation of Neutrality
    This proclamation was issued to keep the United States out the midst of all the conflict arising between France and Great Britain. This would keep the United States from engaging in any alliances with other countries.
  • XYZ Affair

    XYZ Affair
    This was a froeign issue with France that President John Adams wished to resolve. As a result, he sent officials to France to help fix it. Then France demanded money before they would even consider working through this. Which obviously angered Americans.
  • Convention of 1800

    Convention of 1800
    The Convention of 1800 occured because as a result of the "XYZ" affair the relationship between the United States and France was weakened. This Convention was held to mend that relationship.
  • Louisiana Purchase

    Louisiana Purchase
    The Lousiana Purchase is another accomplishment President Jefferson was known for other than writing the Declaration of Independence. In 1803, he made the transaction with Napolean of France. Although nobody was sure if he was allowed to buy land made the Louisiana Purchase for $15 million.
  • Embargo Act

    Embargo Act
    Jefferson convinced Congress that The Embargo Act was meant to be the best route in avoiding issues with Great Britain and France. Unfortunately, this caused an economic hardship on all those that used trade as a way to make money. Overall, it caused a negative outcome surrounding the economics all over.

    War of 1812
    Great Britain had started using impressment upon American sailors. Impressment is forcing sailors into your own naval service. The British Naval Service had been committing these acts and it angered the Americans. Those that supported war against Great Britain were called War Hawks.
  • Treaty Of Ghent

    Treaty Of Ghent
    A.K.A. "The Second War for Indepencdence". This treaty was made and ended the War of 1812. It returned everything back to how it was before the war. The only thing different was that the United States had earned respect for being able to defend what it believed in.
  • Monroe Doctrine

    Monroe Doctrine
    The Monroe Doctrine basically says they want nothing more to do with colonization and they don't take orders from anyone else. "Keeps your hands off the Western Hemisphere" is what is implied because they want nothing more to do with European Intervention and if they did it would be a form of agression.
