Early Modern Era

  • Jun 13, 1550

    Religion

Western Christianity was divided by the Protestant Reformation into Catholicism and Protestantism. Outbreaks of long period conflicts occured over control.
  • Metallurgy

The replacement of wood and othr bio-fuels with coal. Many goods such as wrought iron consumer goods were being created thanks to the new technique. Cheaper iron and steel aided industries such as those making hardware items, also the development of machine tools helped allow better iron, causing it to be used in rapidly growing machinery and engine industries.
  • Steam power

The majority of industrial power was supplied by water and wind. Little power needed continued to be provided by animal and human muscles. Improvements increased engine efficiency and the steam engine went through many improvements by inventors and engineers.
  • Agriculture

The seed drill, the Dutch plough and the threshing machine are all examples of industrial technologies that affected farming. Machine tools and metalworking techniques deceloped eventually resulted in manufacturing techniques for mass-producing agricultual equipment.
  • Textile Manufacture

Spinning and weaving were done in all households, occasionally the work was done in a master weavers workshop. Merchant sellers often supply raw material to home based workers to produce under a contract. Slowly with the new inventions coming up, it took less time and effort to produce a large ammount of textile goods.
  • Chemicals

Chemicals was a large scale production. Discovery, experimenting and development helped teach humans what and how chemicals can effect other things and used them to their advantage while taking the risks.
  • Period: to

    Industrial revolution

Includes going from hand production to machines, chemical manufacturing and iron production processes. Increased use of steam power and development of machine tools. Work and population increased as well as problems that comes with it for example child labor and the increasing or polution and death rates.
  • Machine tools

A demand for metal parts was created during the industrial Revolution, which led to the development of several machines tools. This helped improve human knowledge to create and increase the convenience for it.
  • Paper Machines

The paper machine used for making continuous sheets or papers was greatly improved with many variations. The continuous production shown by the paper machine influenced the development of other continuous production proccess
  • Gas Lighting

Process consisted of the gasification of coal in furnaces, the purification of the gas and it's storage and distribution, soon after, there were major consumers of coal. It had a large impact on social and industrial organisations becouase it lasted longer than candles or oils which allowed stores and factories to remain open longer. Night life flourished in cities and towns because of it's introduction.
  • Cement

Cement was an important advance in the building trades and is used on a large scale in constuction that we still use today. Enables security and stability.
  • Glass Making

A new method of producing glass was discovered and devolped was used to create sheet glass, for example, windows and plate glass. The advancment allowed for even larger planes of glass to be created. It helped create a way to make new and innovative structures.
