    St. Augustine

    In 1565 St. Augustine, Florida became one of the first Spanish forts. Because of the exploratory ventures it served as a base camp.King Philip the second came ashore off the coast of Florida and after conquering the territory he named it St. Augustine. It's one of the oldest European settlements in North America.
  • Virginia Colony

    Virginia Colony
    This colony was the original of the first 13 colonies located on the Atlantic coast of North American. It was an English colony and it existed from 1607 to 1776 when it joined joined the other 12 colonies for the rebellion. It was founded by John Smith and other colonists including John Ralph. It was named after the so called Virgin queen Elizabeth.
  • New York

    The colony of New Netherland was established in 1624, and grew to what is considered present day New York, Long Island, Connecticut and New Jersey. Peter Minuit purchased Manhattan from a local tribe which is how it obtained its name in 1626. Many dutch settlers migrated to the edge of Manhattan Island and renamed New Amsterdam.
  • Maryland

    Maryland was founded was founded in 1633 by George Calvert and other colonists. King Charles The First named the colony after his wife Queen Henrietta Maria. Also it was an English Colony.
  • Louisiana

    In 1682 La Salle lead a french exploration from the great lakes down to the Mississippi valley which he claimed all of it for France. Louisiana then became an overall colony. This colony existed from 1682-1689. Rudolph Bohunek and Pierre Le Moyne d'lberville were the founders of Louisiana.
  • Georgia

    Georgia was founded in 1733 by James Oglethorpe, and had 114 colonists. The last colony and the largest colony to be established. Georgia is named after King George the Second. Oglethorpe is unique among the colonist founders because he survived the revolution and got to see the colonies reach statehood.
