First e-transation

1994

The first e-commerce transactions happened in new Hampshire. It was done by Dan Kohn who ran a website called NetMarket. He sold a Siting CD.

Pizzas online

1994

Pizza Hut started selling pizzas online. Some people think that pizza was the first thing ever sold online, but is not true.

First security for online transactions

1994

Netscape offered a security protocol for online transactions, the Secure Socket Layers (SSL).

Amazon

1995

The largest online bookstore in the world was launched: Amazon.

eBay

1995

An online marketplace named AuctionWeb was launched. Is was renamed Echo Bay (eBay) in 1997. The first thing sold on eBay was a broken laser pointer.

First digital wallet

1998

Fieldlink, which was known later as Cofinity was launched. It was know as the first digital wallet. It's the predecessor of PayPal.

First software to make electronic payment

1999

PayPal was launched. It was the first software that allowed people to make electronic payments.

First mobile commerce site

2001

Amazon launched its frost mobile commerce site.

iTunes

2003

Apple launched iTunes store one of the most famous and profitable online music stores.

Google Checkout

2006

Google Checkout was launched. It allowed Google users to save their credit card information in their Google account in order to buy things online
