    Jamestown was the first permanent English settlement made by the Virginia Company of London in southeast Virginia. The English's main goal in settling in Jamestown was to start the expansion of European country's abroad into new land like America.

    The House of Burgesses was a legislative assembly developed by Governor George Yeardley shortly after the English's arrival in Jamestown. It was the first representative assembly in America, and they met for the first time in Virginia. Different people had the chance to be elected as representatives in the House but only white men who owned a specific amount of land were eligible to vote representatives in.

    On December 20, 1620 the Puritans finally settle in Plymouth. They started by forming the Mayflower Compact, which established their government and legal structure. During the next winter, half of the colonists died and to their surprise the place that they were settled was actually the location of an Indian village that had been wiped out in 1617 by a plague.

    King Philips war will be known as one of the deadliest wars in American history, thousands of Indians were killed, wounded or captured and sold into slavery or indentured servitude. The war decimated the Narragansett, Wampanoag and many smaller tribes and mostly ended Indian resistance in southern New England, which ended up paving the way for more English settlements.
