  • Dred Scott vs Sandford

    Dred Scott vs Sandford

    The final decision was that black people were not considered American citizens regardless if they are free or not. The US Supreme court had a 7-2 decision on this case. This made it so that even though Dred was brought into a free state he was not considered a free man.
  • 13th Amendment

    13th Amendment

    The 13th Amendment abolished slavery and involuntary servitude unless it was a punishment for a crime
  • 14th Amendment

    14th Amendment

    All residents of the USA have equal protection. The government cannot deprive someones life, liberty or property without due process of law.
  • 15th Amendment

    15th Amendment

    You cannot be denied the right to vote based of of your Race, Color or Previous Condition of Servitude.
  • Plessy vs Ferguson

    Plessy vs Ferguson

    In this case the court upheld the constitutionality of racial segregation. In this case Mr Plessy refused to sit in a car that was strictly for black people. The thought was that it was okay as long as the quality of the other thing was similar which in this case was the car for a train.

    This amendment made it so that the USA could not discriminate against voter based off of their sex.

    Brown vs Board of Education

    Brown vs Board of Education was a land mark case involving Civil Rights. Previously the rules were if something were similar there could be discrimination over it. It was then ruled that this would be unconstitutional. Now this allowed all races to be in the same school.

    This act prohibits discrimination based off of race, color, religion, sex, national origin, and later sexual orientation and gender identity. All of this goes towards voting, schools and much more.

    This act prohibits racial discrimination against voters.

    Reed vs Reed

    This case made it so that there couldn't be discrimination over sexes when dealing with estates.

    Title IX

    Title IX makes sure schools that are funded by federal money cannot discriminate against someones sex.
  • Regents of the University of California v. Bakke

    Regents of the University of California v. Bakke

    This was over a man who got rejected twice at the University of California. This ruled that race can be considered with colleges as long as it doesn't turn into a huge minority.
  • Americans With Disabilities Act

    Americans With Disabilities Act

    This act helps make sure people with disabilities are not discriminated against. This act is considered to be apart of the Civil Rights Act. It did take 26 years after the Civil Rights Act occurred to finally have it passed. This took one step closer to ending discrimination.
  • Obergefell vs Hodges

    Obergefell vs Hodges

    This case allowed same sex marriage to be legal. Many were upset it took this long but thankful it finally worked out.
