Musicologist Stephanus Muller initiates the Documentation Centre for Music (DOMUS) at the Stellenbosch University Music Library as part of a research project to collect and preserve the collections of South African musicians, researchers, music institutions and societies, for research.
With ad hoc funding from the Stellenbosch University Music Santie de Jongh is employed to sort the collection of conductor-composer Albert Coates, donated in 1957 by his wife, Vera de Villiers. -
The Music Library Special Collections consistes of 20 collections, which include: Africana and Rare Books, Olaf Andresen, Ivy Angove, Hennie Aucamp, Jan Bouws, G.G. Cillié, Albert Coates, Dirkie de Villiers, Donald Graham Historical Sound Recordings, Hans Endler, Anton Hartman, Friedrich Wilhelm Jannasch, Konservatorium, Lopez-Lambrechts, Rosa Nepgen, Michael Scott, Frits Stegmann, Walter Swanson, Arnold van Wyk and Charles Weich collections.

Tete Mbambisa is considered one of the great figures of South African jazz. This gifted composer, pianist and vocalist has been active in the South African jazz world since the 1950’s. He has collaborated with jazz legends such as Zim Ngqawana, Herbie Tsoaeli, Feya Faku, Sylvia Mdunyelwa and Ezra Ngcukana.
