DNA Advancements

  • Gregor Mandel and Pea Plants

Gregor Mandel conducted an experiment with Heredity in Pea Plants. Over a series of generations of Pea Plants, he concluded that there exists certain resessive and dominant genes. He also discovered that Genes are seperate from one another.
  • X-Ray Mutants

Hermann Mueller experimented with X-Rays impacting Genetic Mutations in fruit flies. He proved that X-Rays can induce Genetic mutations.
  • McClintock Observes Gene Jumping

Maze, the plant experimented with, is a very ideal plant for studying and observing Genetics, and such a plant attracted the attention of Barbara McClintock, who did an experiment similar to the X-Ray Mutations that was done years earlier, and found a Gene with a certain "Knob" on the end of it, that could move from one chromosone to another, switching the color of the kernals intirely.
  • Chargaff's Ratios

Erwin Chargaff published a paper that stated a bold fact, that the ratios of adenine and thymine are equal, as are cytosine and guanine. This helped to further understand the science behind Genes.
  • Hershey & Chase's Blender Experiment

To confirm that DNA is genetic material, these two infected two different batches of Bacteria with bacteriofages, one with a radioactive dose of Sulfer, and another with Radioactive Phospherous. The results confirmed that DNA is in fact Genetic Material.
  • Double Helix Structure of DNA is Finalized

Francis Crick and James Watson finalized the structure of DNA with the help of past DNA scientists findings. They found and published the final chemical structure of DNA that we still use today.
  • Arthur Komburg and the Cell Free Replicator

Arthur Komburg conducts an experiment on creating a cell free system that replicates DNA by isolating the DNA Polymerase.
  • One of the Most Beautiful Biology Experiments in History

Mathew Meleson and Frank Stahl conducted experiments to find out if DNA is Synthesized from it's parents. They found, using compounds of nitrogen, that the DNA does exactly that. Considered the Most beautiful experiment in Biology.
  • Sydney Brenner Discovers mRNA

With a hypothesis, Sydney Brenner discovers that rRNA is not the blueprints for synthesis, but rather, a third component, mRNA, was involved in providing the blueprints.
  • GeneChip to help many in Medical Science

Stephen Fodor created the GeneChip, an ability to create and replicate DNA strands and build them similar to a 3D printer.
