An election that was largely discussed online proved the power of social media was the 2020 election affecting every faucet of social media with conversation. Trump's official Facebook receiving 30.6 million likes, 3.5 million to Joe Biden. Trump also showcased millions more subscribers than Biden on Facebook, Instagram and YouTube and on Twitter Trump averaged 100 messages a day, overall social media helped to motivate people to vote and helped to educate them on the processes. -
Blackout Tuesday was an online collective action to protest racism and police brutality following the murder of George Floyd, Ahmaud Arbery, and Breonna Taylor, businesses abstained from music release or operation and minimal programming occurred that day.
All social media platforms were utilized, primarily Instagram where people would post a black square picture in solidarity.
