  • Introduction

    This time period was full of oppression. It was a rough time to be alive in general but especially for an African American slave. Slave Codes were being enforced as well as the Underground Railroad was being established. In conclusion, it was really hard to find events for this time period so I did the best I could.

    The Establishment of Slave Codes
    Slave Codes were established by the state to regulate the relationship slave and slave owners had with each other. They determined slave rights and owners rights. Their were many different types that were established and they continued to be established till about the 1800s.
  • The Underground Railroad

    The Underground Railroad
    The Underground Railroad was established in the early 1800s and reached a height in the time of the 1850s and 1860s. The Underground Railroad railroad was a series of routes where black slaves could escape. Their were many checkpoints such as houses where slaves could stop and get fed along their journey. These people who offered their homes were people who were against slavery. Their were 14 routes that extended through northern states and Canada. This was a scary time to try to seek freedom.

    Birth and Life of Harriet Tubman
    Harriet Tubman was born in Dorchester County, Maryland in 1820. She was born as slave and had a harsh start to her life and dealt with hard work and brutal beatings. She was very well known within US History. Harriet was an abolitionist, humanitarian, and scout for the US Army during the Civil War. She was involved in many political uprisings and was a part of and supported the Underground Railroad during the 1850s. Harriet died on March 10, 1913 in Auburn, New York.
  • Women's Suffrage Movement

    Women's Suffrage Movement
    Abolitionists in 1848 gathered mostly of women and some men in Seneca Falls, New York to talk about women's rights. This fight for equal rights for women continued for a long time and ended around the year 1920. Women still continue to fight for many rights as even today women aren't treated equally.
