    In 1950 a man named John opened the first all inclusive resort for singles. In 1980 further resorts were opened for couples and families due to high demands. This then expanded into the modern, luxurious all inclusive resorts we see to this day. This had an impact on tourism due to it bringing in a massive income.
  • The first ever Disney park was built.

    The first ever Disney park was built.
    The first ever Disney park was built in 1955, the park was located in California. On the 17th July 1995, a massive 28,000 people attended the parks grand opening. Due to such a high popular demand, a further park was built in 1971 which is called Disney World. This park is located in Florida.
    This has changed Travel and Tourism today due to it attracting many tourists from around the world and making a high income.
  • Butlins

    Butlins
    In 1960, Butlins introduced a monorail to Skegness, other features such as chairlifts and pool with underwater viewing windows were also added. This made Butlins more advanced due to them having better facilities.
    In 1970 Butlin's idea of becoming a holiday camp faded due to how much the number of visitors grew.
    In 1986 new water worlds were built on the remaining resorts. This had an impact on Tourism due to offering more things for families to do.
  • Boeing 727

    Boeing 727
    Boeing commercial air crafts created a plane called Boeing 707 which made people realize the great income planes could make from travelling people around the world. This resulted in another place being made called Boeing 727. This plane was introduced on February 1st 1964 but didn't board flights till until the late 1980's.
    This affected Tourism due to it encouraging outbound tourism and allowing tourists to travel around the world easier than before.
  • Concorde

    Concorde
    Concorde was the fastest commercial airline which traveled twice the speed of sound ranging at 'Mach 2.04'. It first successfully completed supersonic flight took place on October 1, 1969, but it wasn’t until January 21, 1976, that the first commercial flights took place. This affected the Travel & Tourism industry due to people realising that planes could become faster meaning they could travel to places quicker and also more fuel could be stored in the wings meaning they could travel further.
  • Lifting of currency restrictions

    Before the 1970's, tourists were limited to the amount of spending money they were allowed, this limit was only 50 sterling. This made tourists take shorter holidays due to them only having little spending money. When the ban was lifted, tourists were then able to take as much spending money as they desired. This led to an increase in packaged holidays due to tourists being able to travel as far, for as many days as they would like.
  • ATOL

    ATOL
    ATOL was introduced in 1973 after a number of people were left stranded abroad due to their travel agents going bust and having no insurance. This scheme was originally designed to cover charter flights and packaged holidays then expanded in 2012 so that it now covers all overseas packaged holidays as well as covering the components such as accommodation and flights which have been booked separately. This has an impact on tourism due to nobody being able to sell flights without an ATOL license.
  • Dubai

    Dubai
    In the 1980's and early 1990's, Dubai chose to emerge as a major international tourist destination. A major tourist attraction in Dubai is the 'Burj Al Arab' which is a hotel with a rating of 7 stars. This had an impact on tourism due to it opening up a new destination that people could travel too with high hopes of seeing amazing things.
  • Rail

    In 1990 British Rail was broken up and rail tracks were created to run all the trains, signals and stations. Private companies then start to run trains on many of these routes. This affected Travel and Tourism due to more people being able to get around more quicker and efficiently on trains and also train companies brought in a higher income.
  • Package Travel Regulations

    In the UK, anyone who sells package holidays has to comply with the Package Travel Regulations 1992. The Regulations were brought in to set out tour operators' responsibilities, and what consumers can do if they have a problem. This had an impact on Travel and Tourism due to customers feeling in safer hands and knowing someone can help if anything goes wrong.
  • 9/11

    9/11
    9/11 was a major terrorist attack that took place on the 11th September 2001. A series of four coordinated terrorist attacks were carried out by the Islamic State which caused devastation to many. This affected Travel and Tourism due to it making many people scared to fly to places abroad which would decrease the income for airlines. It also stopped many visiting New York.
  • China

    China
    In 2008, China hosted the Olympic games in Beijing which resulted in a massive increase on the number of tourists in their country. In 2007, China was ranked 4th on the worlds tourists ranking with 49.6 million. In 2008, China was ranked 1st on world tourist ranking with 55.6 million which is a great 6 million increase. This affected Tourism due to it bringing in a massive money income to China.
