    John was a huge supporter for Indigenous Rights campaning from a young age. He was infact taken away from his mother much the same as some of his friends. He is well educated and has represented Australia in Soccer. He is now an artist and a successful businessman. He is an example of how it is possible to do anything.

    This is a picture of the Aboriginal Conference. It was conducted on the 150th Anniversary of Ausralian Settlement. The event was a day where the treatment of Aborigines was highlighted.

    This book was written by Mary. M. Bennett. It was all about the minimal rights Indigenous Australian's had. Even though such a book was written, it did not provoke any action by those in charge.

    Albert Namatjira was a painter that was not classified as a ward. Therefore he had the same rights as Europeans. He was jailed for giving alcohol to a Ward.
    This event highlighted the conditions which Aboriginal people were forced to live in.

    Certificate of Citizenship
    Aborigines were given a Certificate of Citizenshi if they chose to become Australian. Though it sounds good, it actually was a method used to "europeanize" them as they were not allowed to have contact with Aborigines wihtout the citizenship. They also had to carry the citizenship around like "dog tags" to prove the Nationality. The Europeans were trying to make them lose their culture and live according to how they live.

    Missions where places Aborigines were asked to live in, but to live in the missions they had to follow "white" culture and become Christian.

  • The Gove Petition

    The Gove Petition
    A petition was formed by the Yrrkala People after mining exploration was approved at the Gove, their land. No action was taken. This event showed that even if the aborigines put pressure on the government, action would not be taken.

    Noel Pearson
    Noel Pearson is an extremely successful Indingenous man. With Accomplishments ranging from establishing Health Councils to establishing Welfare Services for the Indigenous. He fights wherever he goes about the standard of living Aboriginal People have and is seen by some people as a representative of the Aboriginal People. Though contorversy does surround him, he has done a wonderful job in promoting Indigenous issues and is now seen as the "go to" person for Indigenous Issues.

    Lingiari was a stockman on the Wave Hill Station. He was the one that signalled them to walk off the job and argued that morally the land was theirs. He made it a point ot sshow how he was being forced to work on HIS OWN land.

    The Gurindji People who were working walked off the job in this day. The Wave Hill Spur was a tool used by Cattlemen on Wave Hill. Famously, they walked off the job, not for money as it was originally thought but for their land.

    Faith Bandler was a prominent supporter for Indigenous Rights. She wore gloves to show that she was a high class woman. Her support meant a lot to the Indigenous and turned to her for advice and support. She was a huge help when it came to gathering signatures for the referendum.

    Joe McGinness, to whom the hook belongs to was activist that helped Indigenous communities campaign against the Europeans. He like, the Australian Aborigines League was a huge support to local campaigning Indigenous groups.

    The referendum of 1967 is probably the most important referedum in Australian History. It was preampted by 100,000 signatures gathered over 10 years. It ave numerous rights to the Aborigines and they were finally classified as Human Beings and counted in the census.

    Bowraville Theatre, like many other theatres in Australia was segregated between the "whites" and the Indigenous. This theatre is an example of that. The theatres in general show how common the mistreatment of Aborigines was.

    Doug Nicholls was a famous footballer and also the Governor of South Australia. He used his fame to speak out about Indigenous Rights and fourtunately people listened.
