John Adams who was president at the time, transferred his power over to Thomas Jefferson. This established a peaceful transition of power between political parties. Started on October 31st, and ended on December 3rd.

Lewis and Clark began their journey in 1804. President Jefferson had asked Meriwether Lewis to explore the land of the west of the Mississippi River that compromise the Louisiana Purchase. He chose to bring William Clark as his co-leader.
