Daniel Dennett was born in Boston, Massachusetts.

Dennett received his bachelors degree in philosophy at Harvard University, and later received his doctorates in 1965 at Oxford University. Afterwards he came back to the USA and taught at University of California, Irvine.

After writing his doctoral thesis on the nature of consciousness, he published a book called "Content and Consciousness". His work revolved around the philosophy of the mind. This book covers his developing structure of the relation of the mind to the brain.

After moving to Medford, MA in 1971 and due to his vast knowledge of cognitive science, Dennett was appointed the director for the Center of Cognitive Studies in Tufts. (Fletcher School of Tufts)

Dennett continued to publish excerpts while becoming a professor at Tufts University. Dennett embarked along with others from MIT(Massachusetts Institute of Technology) to create a robot called "Cog" to establish whether it can achieve consciousness.

Dennett wrote a volume called "Breaking the Spell: Religion as a Natural Phenomenon", which was directed towards all forms of religion; to be proven farce. This created a "world-view" of atheism. He later debated this subject with other atheist's and was involved in an atheist movement.
