It was dated to have been made between 25,500 - 25,300 BCE, Middle Stone Age. The artwork depicts animal figures, specifically bovids. The significance of this discovery provides us with complex behavior and artistic expression in early modern humans. -
The Seated Woman of Çatalhöyük is an 8000 year old Neolithic Art piece. It was unearthed in Çatalhöyük, an ancient city in southern Anatolia which existed approximately from 7100 BCE to 5700 BCE. It depicts a nude female seated between feline-headed arm-rests. It was first depicted as a fertile Mother Goddess in the process of giving birth. Now many scholars believe that it depicts elderly women who have risen to prominence and achieved status in Çatalhöyük. -
Adam of Macedonia is a 7,000 year old Neolithic Art piece. It was discovered in a small village named Govrlevo, near Skopje in North Macedonia. It is regarded as one of the most important archaeological findings. It depicts a male torso in a seated position with a stressed spine and deeply indented abdomen. It has surprising anatomical details for the time it was created. It has well defined muscles, ribs, navel and a broken phallus.
