The magnitude of this quake was 9.2 .The death toll reached up to 130. Alaska had very limited resources dealing with this disaster because they never experienced such a thing. The earthquake was so powerful it resisted in all 50 US states. -
Hokkaido Earthquake- Japan
The magnitude of this earthquake was 7.8. 120 people lost their lives due to this disaster. The most destruction occurred on Okishuri island. The earthquake created huge landslides. -
Papua New Guinea Quake- Papua New Guinea
The magnitude of this earthquake was 7.1. The death toll of this disaster was 2,100. After the quake, aftershocks were felt in several towns in the area of the epicenter. The royal Australian air force immediaitley flew in relief supplies. -
Samoa Earthquake-Samoan islands
The magnitude of this earthquake was 8.1. After the disaster the death toll reached up to 200 people. The water system was damaged and the supply of freshwater to eastern parts of the American Samoa was disrupted due to broken water lines. Also, this tsunami was generated by an unusual type of earthquake that occurs near ocean trenches. -
Sumatra Earthquake -Indonesia
This earthquake had a magnitude of 9.1. In result to this disaster, 230,000 people lost their lives. This earthquake was the third largest earthquake ever recorded. The rupture was more then 600 miles long. displacing the seafloor by 10 yards horizontally. -
Chile Earthquake- Chile
The magnitude of this earthquake was 8.8. Sadly this tsunami killed 700 people. The oceanographic service was charged for negligence for ignoring tsunami warnings.Furthermore, a town in Chile witnessed waves as high as 50 feet. -
Tohoku Earthquake-Japan
This earthquake had a magnitude of 9.1. The death toll was a massive 20,000 lives. More then 5,000 aftershocks hit Japan the year after the earthquake. This tsunami instigated a major nuclear accident at a power station along the coast. -
Sulawesi Earthquake-Indonesia
This natural disaster hit in September,27, 2018. The magnitude of this earthquake was 7.5. Unfortunately 832 people lost their lives. Five days after this event, bodies remained unburied on the side of the road. Survivors are still avoiding going inside building because they are scared of what the aftershock may bring.
