  • Period: 4000 BCE to 3701 BCE

    The Pre-Human Ages

    The world is much warmer than the present day.
    Urk tribes inhabit the midlands and north while Reptilian peoples inhabit the southern lands and the western continent of Marxar .
    The now ruined cities of the Reptilians are built in Mataland.
  • 3700 BCE

    Humans and Halflings Arrive in Mataland

  • Period: 3700 BCE to 3401 BCE

    Age of Settlement

    The first Humans (and Halflings) arrive on the northern coast of the Matathelonian Sea and build the 18 ‘First Cities’. These cities harbor all Humans (and Halflings) for 300 years.
  • Period: 3400 BCE to 2701 BCE

    Age of Migration

    The cities grow larger but the population grows too fast for the expansion causing the cities to become more cramped and unsanitary until many renounce the idea of ‘the city’ and migrate into the wilderness.
    The ‘New Cities’ are built and settled by the ‘Civilized Humans’ on the western coast of the Matathelonian Sea. For 700 years the ‘Wild

  • Period: 2700 BCE to 2301 BCE

    Age of Frost

    Over a few decades the world inexplicably grows colder until vast glaciers and permafrost coat the northlands.
    - Human tribes cover the midlands, the first empires form around the Matathelonian Sea, the coasts of the Endless Sea to the west are settled and Halflings begin to form their own nation of Tarnak.
    - The remaining Lizardfolk and Urk are pushed back deeper into more secluded parts of the wilderness.
  • Period: 2300 BCE to 1601 BCE

    Age of Dragonclaw

    It is said that “The sky rained hot blood, melting away the frost; an ancient reptilian goddess had cursed the world. Wherever the blood fell, great and terrible creatures arose.” The Chromatic Dragons are born.
    - They quickly enslave the nations of Mataland and begin warring between themselves.
  • 2200 BCE

    Elves land on the northern shores of Mataland and Marxar

  • Period: 1600 BCE to 1101 BCE

    The Age of the Arcane Enlightenment.

    During these peaceful times, Humans discover the magic of the weave.
    Free from the rule of dragons, the peoples of Mataland enter a time of advancements in society, culture, architecture and religion.
  • Period: 1100 BCE to 501 BCE

    The Age of the Great Empires.

    Over time, several vast and mighty empires form across Mataland. There is the ‘First Merculean Empire’ of the midlands, the ‘Solterran Empire’ of the south, the ‘Great Elven Empire’ to the north and (although not technically an empire) the “Western Empire”. These empires engage in constant war.

    Dwarves emerge from the mountains

    Humans and other races land on Marxar

  • Period: 500 BCE to 1 BCE

    The Age of the Arcane Renaissance

    The nations of Arthuria, Lancia, Gavania and Tarnak combine to form ‘Abalon’ in order to protect each other from future invasions. The elder council is formed of Abalonians, Agondrans and Elfs.
    - Matalonians delve deep into the mysteries of the arcane weave and magic is more prevalent than ever. 500 years of progression and experimentation bare significant advancements to civilization.

    Tokrok unites the Bolger tribes

  • 30 BCE

    War of the Free States

  • Period: 1 CE to 75

    The Age of Reversion

    Xi-Ku the Corrupt returns and pulls the elemental chaos into the material world causing the Calamity. He is ultimately defeated and an ancient magical device called the Fulcrum brings balance to the planes of existence. Most of the Human world blames the medaling with Arcana as the cause of these disasters, denounces magic and seeks enlightenment through science and technology.
