The Roles of Women During the First World War
I give this event a +2 because over 3,000 women began working in munitions factories, earning incomes, gaining skills, and networking with other women. Some women also went overseas as nurses, cooks, and drivers. Their roles helped the outcome of soldiers. This event was important because It gave more women ways to make an income while helping their country. -

Winnipeg General Strike
I give this event a +1 just because they stood up for what they believed in but it didn't do anything for that time. Workers in Winnipeg had enough of the working conditions and treatment in the workplace so they thought it was time for a change. The government saw this as an attempt at a revolution. So they threw people in jail if they heard they were leading or helping the strike. This event was important because the long term result was that the unions did develop and begin working together. -
Immigration Act
I give this event a -1 because the government was convinced after the Winnipeg Strike that immigrants were trying to spread dangerous ideologies and subversive activities. The government decided to add more restrictive regulations to the immigration policy to protect the country. They were fine with mostly European people immigrating to Canada. This event is important because the government was blaming immigrants for spreading bad stuff about them. -
Indian Act
I give this event a -2 because this is something that we should not be proud of because the Canadian government was trying to control a group of people because they were different from them. I feel that it just wasn’t right because First Nations people were being taken from their family and their people so they could go to schools to help them fit into Canadian society. This event is important because First Nations people went through so much just because the government wanted control over them. -
Person's Case
I give this event a +2 because this was great progress for women. They got the right to vote and now they were able to become members of the Senate. The change started to happen for them and they got more opportunities to help make decisions. This event is important because women were able to be part of the Senate where they could help women get more rights.
