    This battle was the official start of the Civil War. The Confederates attacked the Union, who were under supplied and outnumbered. For 36 hours the two sides fired back and forth. Union major Robert Anderson surrenders when they eventually run out of resources and buildings within the fort begin to burn. No casualties occurred during the battle. After this battle both the North and the South officially called for war.

    This battle was another win for the Confederates. The union was trying to capture the confederate capital in Richmond but were stopped at Bull Run. This was the first major battle of the civil war and it was very bloody. The Union had 2,708 casualties and the Confederate had 1,982 caustlies. This battle caused the realization that war was gonna be long, bloody and costly.

    The Battle of Shiloh was the Confederacy’s chance to keep the Union out of the Mississippi. This battle lasted two days. This battle was the deadliest battle up to this point in history, with more than 23,000 deaths.This was a big success for the Union. The Confederacy lost any hope of blocking the Union from going into the Mississippi.

    This was a three day battle. The confederates also won this battle. The Union was crushed and they were driven back to Bull Run. This second battle proved to be the deciding battle in the Civil War campaign waged between Union and Confederate armies in Northern Virginia in 1862.

This battle provided President Abraham Lincoln the opportunity to announce the Emancipation Proclamation, this battle became a turning point of the Civil War. The winner of this battle is unknown, it is considered a stalemate. This battle is also known as a Union victory.

    The Siege of Vicksburg lasted about 2 months, it started on May 5, 1863 and ended July 4, 1863. This was the final major military action in the Vicksburg campaign. The Union hoped to get control of the Mississippi River and the City of Vicksburg was the last stronghold. The Confederate surrendered and the Union got control of the Mississippi River and split the Confederacy in two. At the time thuis was the largest amphibious assault in American Military history at the time.

    This battle started July 1, 1863 and ended July 3, 1863. This was a Union victory with 23,000 casualties and 28,000 for the Confederates. This loss for the confederate ended their hopes of becoming an independent nation. This battle is known as the bloodiest battle with more than 10,000 deaths. The Unions had the high ground in this battle and were able to hold it. This battle is considered the “high watermark of the rebellion”.

    This battle was won by the Confederate army, this was their largest victory in the Western theater. This was also the second costliest battle in the war. The Union suffered 16,000 casualties, making it the deadliest battle in the West. The goal of this battle was for the Union to capture Chattanooga itself.
  • Battle of Appomattox Court House

    Battle of Appomattox Court House

    This was one of the very last battles of the Civil War. On April 9, 1865 Confederate general Robert E. Lee surrendered his army to Union general Ulysses S. Grant. This brought the war in Virginia to an end. Although the Confederate surrendered and it was the biggest surrender of War it took several more months to declare the end of the Civil War because other Confederate commanders negotiated until President Johnson officially proclaimed an end to the Civil War.

    This is the official last battle of the Civil War. This was a Confederate victory, the Federals formed a battle line and hammered the Union line with artillery. After this battle was over Confederate forces surrendered to Union officials and made the final battle.
