    The first to circumnavigate the globe. He traveled from the Atlantic through the Pacific Ocean which would give later explores a better understanding of how to sail across the seas efficiently.

    Hernán Cortés overthrew the Aztec Empire. This established a stronghold for the Spanish in the new world.

    William Penn establishes the Society of Friends in what is now Pennsylvania. He gains close relations with the Lenape Native Americans. He also established what is now known as Philadelphia for the Quakers and for religious freedom.

    The Irish depended on this New World crop for political, economic, and social reasons. However, from 1845-1850 a blight contaminated many of the Irish crops and led to starvation amongst the Irish people. This put a strain on British ties which later led to the independence of Ireland.
