    In August of 1587, Roanoke is off the coast of North Carolina and 115 english settlers sailed to Roanoke Island.     In 1607, a joint stock company in Virginia established another colony. The first winter for them was very brutal, they 38 out of 150 survived. Then colony was on a swamp where men refused to work.     Mayflower/Plymouth/Mayflower Compact
    In 1620 the Pilgrims settled the Plymouth Colony. 35 pilgrims and 100 passengers set sail aboard the Mayflower. They went to an area near the Hudson river. The Mayflower compact established the foundation for the colony government.     Connecticut is a New England Colony. It was settled in 1636 by Thomas Hooker. It was a Puritan congregation. During this time there was the Pequot War going on and it was between the colonists and the Indians. They merged colonies with Saybrook in 1644 and New Haven in 1662.     In 1649 with the Maryland colony in St. Marys city. It was a religious tolerance in British North American colonies. It granted freedom of religion of conscience to all christians.     New York was a middle colony settled by the Dutch in 1660. New Jerseys first European settlement was Bergan. Until 1664 New Jersey was apart of New Netherlands until the British took control.     The Salem Witch Trials happened between February 1662- May 1693 in the colony of Massachusetts. People were accused of witchcraft. They accused more than 200 people. 30 people were guilty, 19 executed by hanging and 5 people died in jail.
