  • Roanoke

    The 'lost colony" was the firs European colony established in North America. The colony at first had a hard time getting food and other supplies because of their desire in finding gold.   • Jamestown

    Jamestown
    A group of about 100 members called the Virginia Company founded first English settlement in North America. The settlement was founded on a swamp. Many people refused to work.   • House of Burgesses

    House of Burgesses
    The House of Burgesses was the first legislature set up anywhere in the colonies. They meet in a church the first time a meeting took place and they discussed the price of tobacco. The House of Burgesses could make laws, but could be vetoed by the governor.     Mayflower/Plymouth/Mayflower Compact
    The Mayflower was a ship that brought the first puritans over to the Americas. When settled the males all wrote the Mayflower Compact which was the first document of government in the Plymouth Colony.

    Maryland was founded by George Calvert, Lord Baltimore, and other colonists. Maryland was a southern colony. The reason why Maryland was founded was for religious freedom.     Connecticut was a New England Colony settled by Thomas Hooker at Hartford. There major industry was agriculture in corn, wheat, and fishing.     Rhode Island was founded by Roger Williams. Rhode Island was a puritan colony and their was no religious freedom. Rhode Islands major industries were Agriculture (livestock, dairy, fishing). Fish included cod, mackerel, herring, halibut, hake, bass and sturgeon and whales. Manufacturing (lumbering). Breweries and distilleries producing rum.   • Maryland Toleration Act

    Maryland Toleration Act
    In Maryland around 1649 Puritans began to out number catholics so their government passed this act. This act was passed so that it granted religious freedom to all who believed in the Trinity and that Jesus was the son of God. They also made it a crime to jeer at other believers by calling them "papist," "heretic," or "Puritan."   • Carolina

    Carolina
    Carolina was a southern colony founded by eight supporters of King Charles 2. Trade in Carolina included Tobacco, cotton, rice, indigo (dye), lumber, furs, farm products. In 1712 South Carolina becomes a separate Colony.

    In 1729 North Carolina becomes a royal English colony.
  • Bacon's Rebellion

    Bacon's Rebellion
    This rebellion is name after Nathan Bacon. Nathan made a militia with indentured servants, slaves, and farmers. They wanted to get back at the Native Americans for attacking a Virginia frontier. After this happened Governor Berkeley was mad at Bacon. Bacon destroyed Jamestown and Bacon and others were killed. (Notes)

    The Salem Witch Trials was a time where people started accusing other people that they were witches. Through out the whole time about 150 people were accused of being witches, but only 19 were accused of witchcraft. (Notes)

    The Great Awakening was a European philosophical movement known as the Enlightenment or the Age of Reason. Enlightenment thinkers emphasized a scientific and logical view of the world, while downplaying religion. During this time people fell away from church.     This war was also called the Seven Years War. This war was the final war of the Colonial War. The English and the French battled for colonial domination in North America, the Caribbean, and in India.     Proclamation of 1763
    King George 3 issued the Proclamation of 1763. The Proclamation of 1763 created four new territories that were open to settlement: Quebec, East Florida, West Florida, and Grenada.
