  • Jamestown

    Jamestown, Virginia, the first established colony, became a very prosperous area due to its major ports and land that was capable of growing a variety of plants. This combination allowed for lots of money and trades to flow. Though, they needed someone to harvest these crops, and the indentured servants weren't enough, so slave trading began.

    The Great Migration

    The first Great Migration introduces Pilgrims and Puritans into American society. Both sought for religious freedom and established the Plymouth colony in Massachusetts. This lead to further establishment throughout Massachusetts (Massachusetts Bay Colony) and into other New England states.
  • Massachusetts

    The Massachusetts Bay Colony was established in 1629. As pilgrims from England migrated over for religious reasons, it allowed for expansion in the Northern parts of North America. The first colony in Massachusetts was the Plymouth colony, where pilgrims came over on the Mayflower. They are the basis for our elementary school Thanksgiving story.
  • Maryland

    The Province of Maryland was a colony established in 1632. The Chesapeake Bay was positioned on the coast of Maryland which allowed for trade as well. Though, it's main reason for establishment was to provide a safe space for Catholics fleeing from persecution from Non-Catholics.
  • First Navigation Act

    These navigations acts prohibited ships that weren't English from coming into English ports. It also only allowed for goods such as tobacco, sugar, indigo, and cotton from the colonies to be sent to England and nowhere else. Prohibiting profit for the colonists to flow as smoothly because it made the British government more money if they sold it directly.
  • King Philips War

    King Philips War began a three year period of bloodshed, distrust, hatred, and racism between the Native Americans and the English Colonists. Starting over a conflict that could've been prevented by Philip himself if he took accountability for his actions. The war was primarily caused by the betrayal of the English towards the natives, resulting in the idea of a revolt. After word got around that the Natives planned an attack on the English, the war began. There were many reasons to its start.
  • Bacon's Rebellion

    Bacon's Rebellion was an armed rebellion in Virginia lead by Nathaniel Bacon. His reasons behind it were because the Virginian government (who was run by his cousin) were allowing the Natives of Virginia to continue living there. His plan, comprised of both black and white slaves and servants, was to exterminated the Native population of Virginia. Which ended up with Jamestown being burnt to the ground and harsher slave laws enacted, as it scared the Virginian government of future revolts.
  • Salem Witch Trials

    In the Massachusetts Bay Colony, there was the village of Salem. Inhabited by Puritans, this lead to several misunderstandings when people would go against what the bible said. Though, the accusations began because of the supposed possession of two village girls by a house servant named Tituba, the hysteria soon spread throughout the village which resulted in more than 200 accusations and the death of 19 people.

    First Great Awakening

    The Great Awakening was an age of Enlightenment or Revival within the Thirteen Colonies and England, where Revivalists went and spread their messages. It provided for several forms of Christianity and other religions to spread, as well as some of the questionable ideas that came along with those religions. There have been several revivals in the past few centuries, such as Billy Graham.
  • Seven Years War

    The Seven Years War was the end of a very long fight between the French and British in North America. Tensions between them began as the British tried to expand Westward where the Native Americans and the French occupied. A young man named George Washington was sent to tell the British to stay away from Pennsylvania, and when the French denied, the war began.
