    Roanoke was founded by Sir Walter Regan in 1585. He brought many of his family members including his daughter who was about to have a baby. The daughter of Walter had her baby in Roanoke named Virginia Dean who was the first European born in America.

    Jamestown
    Jamestown was the first permanent English settlement in America. It was located in Virginia on the banks of the James River. Jamestown was named after King James I of England, he was king when Jamestown was founded. There were about 104 people that were on the boats to America.     The House of Burgesses was the first legislative assembly of elected representatives in North America. The House of Burgesses was created by the Virginia company to encourage English craftsmen to settle in America. The House had laws and a governor, also they had a supreme court.     The Mayflower was the ship that the pilgrims/ separatist took to search for religious freedom in America. Plymouth is the city in Massachusetts they landed at and started to settle. The Mayflower Compact was the first governing document of the Plymouth colony.

    When the pilgrams landed in Plymouth Plantaion they stared the Great Migration. This is also called the Great Puritian Migration. They came to America to live righteous and spiritual lives but they didn't come to America to get rich. Most of the puritans who came were middle class famlies. About 75% of the migrants to Virginina where servents.

    New York
    New York was settled by the Dutch who called New York New Netherlands and New York City was called New Amsterdam. Henry Hudson explored the area in 1611 for the Dutch. The Dutch decided to use the Patroon System to promote settlement in the area. Some Dutch landowners were renting out land to tenant farmers.

    Massachusetts Bay Colony
    The Massachusetts Bay Colony was an English settlement on the east coast of America. The colony covered most of central New England. The colony was founded by the members of the Massachusetts Bay Company. Most of their population was puritan. They had good relationships with the locals and natives, but they ended up with bad blood and had two wars.

    Maryland was settled by Lord Baltimore. He was a Catholic who convinced King Charles I to grant him 100 million acres for persecuted Catholics to settle. Baltimore took a turn for the worst and died before he could do anything with the land, but his son took over and gave it all away. He gave it away to married couples 100 acres at a time.

    Rhode Island was settled by Roder Willams and his supporters. He founded Rhode Island where there was no religious persecutions of christians. Rodger Williams was banned from the Massachusetts Bay Colony for speaking out against the government authorites.

    Connecticut was settled by Thomas Hooker. The Fundemental Orders of Connecticut was the first written constitusion in North America. The religion in Connecticut was puritian but the Dutch took over the relgion in 1637.

    This Act allowed freedom of worship for all Trinitarian Christians in Maryland. If you denied the divinity of Jesus you were sentenced to death. This act is also known as the Act of Concerning Religion. This was a way to protect Catholics. en.m.wikipedia.org

    Carolina was settled by supporters of King Charles II. Many people settled in the Carolinas to grow cash crops. These cash crops were rice, indigo, and tobacco. These crops required a huge labor force. By 1720 African slaves outnumbered European settlers 2:1.

    Bacon's rebellion was an armed rebellion that happened in 1676 carried out by Virginia settlers. The rebellion was against William Berkeley. This was the first rebellion in North American colonies.     Pennsylvania was settled by William Penn. King Charles II granted Penn a charter for the colony of Pennsylvania. Penn established the colony as a Holy Experiment. In the 1660 William Penn became a Quaker and his colony became a haven for Quakers.

    The Witch Trials started when a group of girls claimed to be possessed by the devil. About 150 men, women and children were accused of witch craft but only 18 people were killed and 2 dogs.     The French and Indian War is also known as the Seven Year war. When France decided to expand into the Ohio River valley had brought many conflicts with the claims of the British colonies. Many battles later the British declared war in 1756. The British had won many battles and the war because of the financing by Prime Minister Willaim Pitt.
