    Roanoke was an island of NC coast where English settlers arrived in 1589. John White went back to England to get more supplies. Because the Spanish armada was attacking England at the time, all the ships were being used so John could not get back to his colony. after 3 long years White went back to his colony only to find that they were all gone. The only hint he had was the word "Croatoan" carved into a tree. Link text

    The mayflower was a ship that sailed from England to the coast of North America. The ship was lead by William Bradford. They landed in Plymouth and settled. While on their way, they made a compact called the Mayflower compact. It says "those who don't work, don't eat." Link text

  • Bacon's Rebellion

    Bacon's Rebellion
    In the 1670s, Virginia farmers and frontiersmen got mad at governor William Berkeley because he restricted rights to vote, made higher taxes and made tobacco prices low. In 1676 Nathaniel Bacon gathered a small army and attacked Jamestown threatening to torch it. The same year Bacon died of dysentery and the rebellion died down. Link text

    The Salem witch trials, held from spring to fall of 1692, were trials of innocent people that were accused as witches. The people confessed that they were witches and called out others to save their own lives. Many people were falsely accused and killed. It all ended at the end of fall when people saw how little evidence there was and how people were actually dying because of it. Link text
