  • Founding of Jamestown

    Jamestown was founded as the first English colony of the new world. The significance of this is that it was the first settlement in the americas after colombus. This is one of the most important instances in U.S. history because the majority of the population of this settlement died over the first few years of settling. It was only untill John Rolfe came to Jamestown was where they actually had prosperity and made a living with the abundant crop of tobacco.
  • House of Burgesses

    House of Burgesses
    First Legislature in North America. This illuded to our later government, because it was electing representatives by popular vote of the population (white male citizens). This was later developed into the democracy we know today.
  • Founding of Plymouth

    Founding of Plymouth
    Plymouth was also one of the first settlements in the new world. Plymouth was made up of many more races of people than had been brought to the America's before. One of the main groups on this voyage, although one of the least plentiful were the separists. They were seeking religious freedom from the journey. Later in their journey they also befriended squanto. These people were later known as Pilgrims. These pilgrims were also one of the main groups to found Plymouth.
  • Pequot War

    When the puritans were trying to expand out and beyond the borders that they had established in the past, they extended even further untill there was conflict with the Pequot tribe. The war was fought for many years with much bloodshed. In the end this was then made into a genocide of this tribe of native americans who were seeked out and either killed or put into slavery be the english or other native american tribes.
  • Fundemental Orders of Conneticut

    Fundemental Orders of Conneticut
    Pilgrims were being persecuted for their religious beliefs. This is one of the amendments stopping it. It was made possible by popular vote of the legislature. It was eventually passed and the pilgrims were able to worship their type of lutheran religion.
  • Toleration Act of 1649

    Toleration Act of 1649
    This was one of the first just laws banning speech agains races of different religions. This law prevented many intolerant religious hate crimes and limited persecution of religion. They started to limit to some extent, the power of the then and still very powerful catholic church. Although it gave a death sentence to anyone who did not believe in Jesus Christ.

    Navigation Acts
    Restricted trade between british colonies and forign shippers with many different resources that were being traded. They restricted forigners from trading with many of the colonists.
  • King Philip's War

    King Philip's War
    over the expansion of plymouth, and the murders and death of the brother of King Phillip, war broke out between many Native american tribes and many allies of European colonies united by the british crown.
  • Bacon's Rebellion

    Bacon's Rebellion
    The war was between two settlers, William Berkely and Nathaniel Bacon. This was all because Berkely was not allowing bacon to join the fur trade with many of the native american tribes associated with this group of settlers.
  • Dominion of New England

    Dominion of New England
    The union of many settlements near new england. This was a union between many powerful settlements, later in time these unions would form together to fight wars against native american tribes and other settlers alike.
  • Salem Witch Trials

    Salem Witch Trials
    These were the accusations and convictions of citizens being accused of Witchcraft. Over four hundred were accused. There were one hundred fifty in prison and over twenty that were hung. Combined with people who had confessed and were killed in the result. This ended up as a genocide and accusation of many people as well.
  • Great Awakening

    Great Awakening
    This event refers to the revision of many of the religious freedoms of many of the english settlements in the new world. This gave religious freedom to many of the evangelical protestants' religions.
  • Peter Zenger Trial

    Peter Zenger Trial
    Peter Zenger was charged with bad mouthing the union because there was no freedom of press back then. This allowed in our bill of rights to have freedom of press included in our rights.
  • Stono Rebellion

    Stono Rebellion
    This was in a nutshell a rebellion of many slaves and other prisoners of war and captured people against the english settlers. This was also the biggest slave rebellion in the history of colonial America.
