  • Founding of Jamestown

    Founding of Jamestown
    It was the first settlement. Sponsored by King James I and a company in London, who wanted to get a profit off of it. The significance of this is that they began to grow tobacco and that made people want to live there and that's how they began a town. Also they learned alot of new things this way.
  • The House of Burgesses

    The House of Burgesses
    In 1620 due to Jamestown being a failure the governor brought in a boatload of marriageable women costing 120 pounds of tobacco each bride. In 1619 the House of Burgesses held their first meeting being the first assembly in America.
  • Founding of Plymouth

    Founding of Plymouth
    There was 101 colonist, and half of them were seperatists. The Mayflower was taken off course so they ended up in Massacusetts. On December 21, 1620 the Pilgrims began to make a new colony. Due to them building a colony there later in life that's how we got to Thanksgiving.
  • Pequot War

    This war was the serious armed conflict between the indigenous people and New England. One thing that made this war really important is almost 300 Pequot people were burned out of their houses, hunted, and killed.

    This is the first written Consitution of the Americas. It explains the oaths for establishing a government.
  • Toleration Act of 1649

    Toleration Act of 1649
    This happend in Maryland for the right of religous freedom. They belived that this was a way to protect the Catholics. In 1649 the English Puritans were in control.
  • Navigation Acts

    Navigation Acts
    This was to protect the shipping and make sure there was money coming in from the colonies to the main land. They wanted to make sure exports and imports were being taken care of and nothing were to happen to them.
  • King Philip's War

    King Philip's War
    This was the last effort for the indians to drive the English settlers away. This was also known as Metacom's Rebellion. This war lasted fourteen months and destroyed twelve frontier towns. The war ended in August 1676.
  • Bacon's Rebellion

    Bacon's  Rebellion
    Was known as a rebellion between two selfish leaders. Things that helped set this off was the decline in tobacco prices, compition between Maryland to the Carolina's and onto the Virginia's. Due to this it restricted English markets making prices go up.
  • Dominion of New England

    Dominion of New England
    King James II wanted to bring the colonies together to be stronger. Later the Dominion was failing so they couldn't send the colonies and military or any weapons. They came to a halt when the collonies got word that they were removing King James II from the throne.
  • Salem Witch Trials

    Salem Witch Trials
    Witch trials swept across Europe from the 1300's to the 1600's. Salem was settled by puritans in 1628. More than 200 people were accused of doing witchcraft, and 20 of them were killed. On the 27th of May governor William Phips created a special court called the Court of Oyer and Terminer.

    Great Awakening
    This changed the course of America. This was the spiritual renewal that swept across Europe. This made it so that people could express their feeling and beleifs about God.
  • Stono Rebellion

    Stono Rebellion
    When 20 African slave met at the Stono River to plan their escape to freedom. They killed 2 storekeepers to steel guns and powder. The numbers went up the farther they got and was known as one of the uprising slave acts. The slave owners caught up with them in 1789 and many were killed.
  • Peter Zenger Trial

    Peter Zenger Trial
    He came to America when he was a teen. Worked as an endentured servant. He made his own printing shop in New York and critisized the Royal Governor William Cosby. On November 17th 1734 he had Peter arrested and imprisonedfor stedious libel. Due to the way he showed how the governor really was it helped make our law better and to make a better ground.
