  • United Nations form

    The United Nations formed after WWII in hopes to keep the peace between countries

  • Hollywood 10

    Ten Hollywood actors and directors were put in jail after they refused to answer whether or not they were or ever had been a communist.

  • The Truman Doctrine

    Stated that the United States would help any capitalist country that was under communist threat.

  • Marshall Plan

    This plan declared that the United States would help pay to fix the economic state of Europe after the war. Truman signed this act.

  • NATO formed

    NATO is a group of 30 countries from North America and Europe formed for the purpose of protecting one another and maintaining some form of peace. It was formed because of the unrest after WWII.

  • Korean war

    A war between North Korea and South Korea. South Korea was supported by the United States and the UN because they weren't a communist society. North Korea was supported by the Soviet Union because they wanted to be a communist society.

  • sputnik launch and space race

    Sputnik was launched by the soviet union and was a major scientific advancement that the United States wanted to accomplish first so that they could prove that democracy was better than communism.

  • Bay of Pigs

    The united states wanted to invade Cuba to overthrow ruler, Fidel Castro, but this invasion ultimately failed due to the fact the the US troops were outnumbered compared to Fidel's troops.

  • Berlin wall went up

    The berlin wall went up in Germany to separate the east and west sides of berlin. The west side was under democratic rule and the west took up more of a controlled, communist rule. The wall went up suddenly and separated families. people that resided in the west were extremely unhappy.

  • US enters Vietnam war

    The US wanted to stop the spread of communism and decided to join the vietnam war. Before they joined the war they were afraid that vietnam would become a communist country, so in hopes to prevent that, the US decided to support them financially and send supplies

  • Soviets invaded Afghanistan

    Soviets invaded Afghanistan because they wanted to spread communist ideas and were worried about Americas relationship with Afghanistan.

  • The fall of the Berlin Wall

    The fall of the berlin wall was caused because the united states did not like the wall and so they began a standoff with the soviet union over it. The United States was successful in getting the wall to come down and it did so in early November of 1989
