The partition of Vietnam was when North and South Vietnam were divided by the 17th parallel. The partition served as a way t separate the different views of each Vietnam, North being communists and south being more democratic. -
Ngo Dinh Diem was becoming increasingly corrupt in South Vietnam and was becoming more controlling of those who had either fleed North Vietnam and/or already resided in South Vietnam. His popularity significantly decreased when he cancelled the elections that were meant to serve as a way to unify both Vietnams.
