    This was the start of an alliance between the Chinese and US, with an American player who had gotten on a bus with the Chinese team, and exchanges of words and souvenirs went between him and the star Chinese. Reporters caught this and the Chinese were seen as friends with the US. Nixon had also stated that the US must not forget China and had restarted their communication. This was an event that surprisingly helped the US and China rebuild a connection.

    This game was 5 days after the Munich massacre by Palestinian terrorists. There was also much hope for the Americans to win for the 64th time, in Munich. Although the Soviets did win, there were some investigations on the game, declaring the final drive and winning points inaccurate because of some biased refs. These things were reforms against Soviet Russia to prove that they are doing anything to take control. This also pushed the US to continue fighting the Soviets.

    Also known as the Miracle on Ice, an Olympic hockey game between the US and the Soviets. This game was bigger than expected and the outcome, while shouldn't pertain to the war, gave hope and a strong feeling of nationalism. Olympic hockey had been won by the Soviets for ten years, but the young college-aged Americans won. This event was a way of showing the world that the Russians could be stopped and improved the hope for the war.
