The Molotov Plan was a plan to help rebuild Eastern European countries that were aligned politically and economically with the Soviet Union. This included Poland, East Germany, Czechoslovakia, etc.

The Marshall Plan was essentially the same thing as the Molotov Plan except it sent $12 billion in economic assistance to the Western European countries.

The Berlin Airlift was an operation to airlift food, water, and supplies to West Berlin which had its roads and railways cut off by the Soviets. It was seen to be a pivotal point in the Cold War. It lasted until May 12, 1949 when the USSR lifted the blockade.

On August 29, 1949 the USSR successfully exploded it’s own atomic bomb. This basically levelled the playing field and took away the advantage that the Americans had on the soviets.

Beginning on June 25, 1950 the Korean War was fought between North and South Korea. The war broke out after North Korea invaded South Korea after some clashes on the border. The war officially ended on July 27, 1953. Korea separated into two sovereign states.

The Warsaw Pact was a pact of friendship between the Soviet Union and other soviet satellite states including Poland, Hungary, Romania and many others. It was formed as a counter to NATO.

The Egyptian president nationalized the Sues Canal meaning that French and Britishgoods couldn’t be transported through it. This cause major ramifications as well as troops completely pulling out a short while later.

The rebellion in Hungary was a revolution to try and overthrow the communist party of Hungary. This revolution was a nationwide effort but ended up with the rebels getting crushed by the soviets. The rebellion lasted from Oct 23, 1956 – Nov 10, 1956
