Exposition-Background
The Forbes moved from Richmond because Mr. Forbes took a job as an art teacher in Bealesville. They bought a run down house to fix up. When they arrived in town, everyone told them a murder had happend in the house. Supposedly, Mrs. Donaldson was murdered because she had stolen a lot of money from her employer, The Magic Forest. The Magic Forest used to be an amusement park based on nursery rhymes, but is now abandoned, covered in vines, and condemned. -
Exposition - Characters
The characters are: Mr. and Mrs. Forbes and their son Logan, Arthur Jenkins and his grandmother, Mrs. Donaldson and her dog Bear, Violet, Silas (Violet's ex-husband), Danny (Violet's son), May (Violet's daughter), Mr. DeSilvio (the park's old accountant), Mrs. DeSilvio, Anthony DeSilvio, Nina (undercover cop posing as a reporter), Johnny, and Billy. -
Exposition-Setting
Closed For the Season is set in Bealesville, Virginia around 2010. The Forbes live in an old, rundown house where a murder may have happened. -
Rising Action 1
In the beginning of the story, Arthur and Logan became friends. They decided to find out who murdered Mrs. Donaldson and find the missing money. -
Rising Action 2
Arthur and Logan searched through belongings left in the attic and found a note written by Mrs. Donaldson just before she died. -
Rising Action 3
They didn't understand what the note meant so they took it to Mrs. Donaldson's daughter, Violet to see if she knew what the note meant. Violet couldn't remember anything helpful. -
Rising Action 4
After Violet thought about the note, she realized that her mother was telling her the money was hidden in the Magic Forest. Violet told Arthur and Logan the money is probably near the Witch’s Hut. -
Rising Action 5
Arthur and Logan went to the library to get a map of the park so they could find the money. Unfortunately, Violet also told her mean ex-husband Silas, and he went after a map and the money too. -
Climax
On the night before the old park was to be bulldozed, Arthur, Logan, and Violet’s son Danny and his dog Bear went to the park to search for the money. Right after they found the money Silas, Violet and Mr. DeSilvio, the park’s old accountant appear and demand the money. The boys wouldn’t talk until Silas started hitting Violet. They handed over the money and Silas and Mr. DeSilvio disappeared into the park. Then Nina and several police officers showed up and captured Silas and Mr. DeSilvio. -
Falling Action 1
Nina took Logan and Arthur and their bikes home. -
Falling Action 2
Logan’s mom and dad, and Arthur’s grandmother were waiting for them on the porch. They confiscated their bikes and sent them to their rooms after scolding them for being in a dangerous situation. -
Falling action 3
Arthur and Logan gave statements to the police and got to appear on the evening news on television. -
Resolution 1
Mr. DeSilvio and Silas went to jail. -
Resolution 2
School started and all the other kids asked Arthur and Logan questions about what had happened. Arthur and Logan felt like heroes. -
Resolution 3
Danny agreed not to bully Arthur anymore if Arthur agreed not to tell anyone about Danny crying when Silas hit his mother.
