    Birth of Claude Monet
    Claude Monet was born on November 14th, 1840 under the name of Oscar-Claude Monet. He was born to Adolphe and Louise-Justine Monet in Paris, France. When Claude was 5 he later moved to Le Havre, in order for his parents to work the family grocery buisness. He attended highschool at College du Havre. (Waldron 6) This is important because Monet later become one of the most famous painters who changed art.

    First Public Bath in England
    The first public bath in England was opened in 1844. The idea was introduced by returning crusaders who enjoyed warm water. At first only many were allowed to wash and only 12 at a time.
    This is important because it introduce the need for being sanitary.

    Becomes interested in painting
    Monet first became interested in painting when he attened the College du Havre. He was 15 and his art teacher was the well known Francois Charles Ochard. Ochard had 3 paintings hung in the Salon whcih was a gallery in Paris for talented artist. He Taught Monet to paint and when Monet realized he was good at art he started to sell paintings to small stores.
    This is important because without Claude Monet's intrest in art he would not have become a well known artist.

    Met Eugene Boudin
    When Claude Monet was 16 he ran into a local well known artist, Boudin. Boudin offered to teach Monet more ways to paint. At first Monet refused but after some thought he decided to give it a try. The two painted out of doors as they called it and painted the landscape they saw.
    This is important because Boudin was Monet's first mentor.

    Claude Monet moved to Paris to persue art. Even though his grant was denied and his family wanted him home he stayed. While their he studied under Pere Suisse. In 1861 Paris ended when Monet was drafted into the army.
    This is important because this is Monet's first step in his career.

    Studied Under Gleyre
    Claude Monet's Aunt agreed to buy him out of the army in trade that he studies under Marc Charles Gabriel Gleyre. There Monet met his companions Frederic Bazille, Pierre Auguste Renoir and Alfred Sisley who shared similar views of art. Gleyre closed in 1864.
    This is important because if he had not of studied at Gleyre's he would not have met his fellow artists.

    Claude Monet submitted two of his paintings to the Salon and both were accepted. Monet moved to England with his wife and child, little Jean, to escape the army draft. In England Monet continued to work on his art to bring back to France.
    This is important because this is when Claude Monet's name became known.

    When Monet returned to France his third painting was denied by the Salon because it was not the normal accustomed style. Then Monet opened his own gallery for what he called impressionism art. Here 30, different styled, painters showed off their art for the public.

    Roosevelt visits Canal Zone
    President Teddy Roosevelt visited the canal zone for the Panema Canal. This was his first trip out of the U.S as president. He traveled to check the progress of the canal. Also to help work on it so that the Panamanians could seperate from Colombia.
    This is important because it showed Roosevelts great work ethic to the world.

    Water Lilies
    Claude Monet created a huge garden full of all types of water lilies. He was moved by the beauty of the flowers and painted them over and over again everyday. Everyday he saw the flowers in a new way so none of the paintings were repeated. When World War I ended Monet agreed to donate some of the paintings to be displayed in honor of his country.
    This is important because this was Monet's most well known painting collection.

    In !914 135 countries took place in the Great War. World War I ended many empires including the Russian, German, Ottoman, and Austro-Hungarian. The war resulted in 15 million deaths.

    This is important because it was the "First War" that ended when many countries signed peace treaties.

    This is important because it helps to keep our time in balance and save hours of daylight.

    Claude Monet developed cataracts in his eyes. These cataracts caused him to not be able the difference between different colors. Being an artist this put a setback in his plans but it did not stop him. He learned to paint even without knowing which color was which.
    This is important because if he had stopped painting he would not have kept painting the water lilies.

    Death
    On December 6, 1926 Claude Monet passed away in his bed. As he was dying he had his dar friend Clemenceau at his side the whole time. He passed away due to lung cancer that had developed.
    This is important because this was the end of the works of Claude Monet.
