    An attack on native americans ordered by Colonel John Chivington which 70- 163 men, women, and children by Sand Creek. The attack was carried on even though the town was flying the U.S. flag and surrenedered immediatley after firing began.

    Medicine Lodge Treaty
    The overall name for three treaties signed by native americans and the U.S. They were treaties designed to prevent war between the U.S. and native americans and aimed at putting native americans on reservations and relocating them.
  • 2nd Treaty of Ft. Laramie

    2nd Treaty of Ft. Laramie
    A treaty between the U.S. and the Lakota people, Yanktonai, and Arapaho. It guaranteed the Black Hills to the native americans and closed off that land to whites. It also gave the native americans more hunting ground in South Dakota, Wyoming, and Montana. This treaty ended Red Cloud's War.

    Colonel Ranald Mackenzie charged a camp of native americans with his calvary causing the native americans to flee. This got all of the native americans out of the canyon and forced them to go back to their reservation.

    Was a decisive victory for the Lakota, Cheyenne, and Arapaho. It is most famous for "Custer's Last Stand" in which Custer's entire force was killed in battle with no survivors.

    The Nez Perce tried to flee the U.S. and go to Canada so they would not have to be relocated but were tracked down by the U.S. army and were forced to surrender 40 miles south of the Canadian border. They were relocated to Oklahoma after being prisoners of war for 7 months in Kansas.

    Geronimo who is one of the most famous native americans because of how he evaded 1000's of the Mexican and U.S. troops for over a year with his small band of warriors. He had the title of 'The worst Indian to ever live'. He surrenedered in September 1886 to General Miles of the U.S. army.

    The Ghost Dance movement was started when Wovoka had a vision that if the native americans did a certain dance that the buffalo would return to the great plains and the white man would leave. It became a commonly practiced ritual that the U.S. viewed as a threat from the native americans to the U.S.

    Wounded Knee Massacre
    Last battle of the American Indian war. The U.S. army was disarming native american when a shot was fired and the U.S. army massacred all native americans on the spot pursuing those that had fled and killing them. In the end around 300 native americans were dead including 200 women and children.
