    Nat Turner lead a slave revolt which lead to the deaths of 55-65 people. August 21st-August 23rd

    Proposed law that stated that all lands won in the Mexican american war cannot have slaves
  • Compromise of 1850

    Another compromise that didn't do anything good and made thing worse

    Act that said that southern owners could put escaped slaves back on to the plantation from which they had escaped from.

    Repealed the Missouri Compromise, create 2 new territories, and started Bleeding Kansas.

    Controversial court case that decided that said that slaves must return to their masters.
  • John Brown's Raid on Harpers' Ferry

    Abolitionist John Brown and his sons led a raid on Harpers' Ferry. The biggest national arsenal at the time. He hoped to start a slave rebellion but ended up getting caught and hung.
  • Founding of the Confederate States of America.

    The Confederate States are founded and the Civil War is set in motion.
  • Abraham Lincoln Inaugurated

    Abraham Lincoln was inaugurated as the 16th president of the United States.
  • South Carolina Seceeds

    South Carolina is the first state to leave the Union and one of the founding states of the confederacy.

    The first battle of the civil war, no casualties on either side.
