    The Missouri Compromise
    The Missouri Compromise is the laws made to maintain the balance between free an slave states. When Missouri decided they wanted to become a state they did but they wanted to become a slave state which would mak there be more slave stats then free states. Since the north would have gotten very upset Henry Claycame up wit an idea that Maine wuld become a free state an Arkansas would be open to slavery since Missouri became a slave state. This also established the 36''30 line.

    The Nullification Crisis
    The nullification crisis occurred when Jackson decided to raise tariffs the supported the north. The south was very upset by this so Vice President John C. Calhoun said a y state could nullify. When the federal goverment said no to this South Carolina threatened to secede. As a result Jackson made the force bill saying no states could secede from the union. After the force bill Henry Clay came up wit a compromise the lowered tarrifs.
  • Compromise of 1850

    Compromise of 1850
    After the war with Mexico the U.S had gained multiple new territories. One being California since it was such a huge piece of land it would definitely set the balance off since California wanted to become a free state. So Henry Clay decided that if California became a free state that the slave trade in Washington D.C had to be abolished and as of the time congress would not pass laws banning slavery from the rest of the territories won from Mexico.

    Fugitive Slave Act of 1850
    The fugitive Slave Act came into place in 1850 right after the Compromise of 1850 due to the fact thta the South didnt get much at all out of the compromise. The act said that said any slaves found in the north trying to escape and were caught were forced to come back down to the south and then were usually punished for trying to escape. When this act was put in place the South was very pleased but it made the North very furious.
  • Bleeding Kansas 1855

    Bleeding Kansas 1855
    When Kansas decided to become a state there was really no decided side so there was a vote held. 5000 people from proslavery Missouri voted for Kansas to be proslavery. Ani-slavery people opposed this and created an anti-slavery government. Proslavery forces attacked the anti-slavery pepl. To end this attack John Brown murdered several of his pro slavery friends.
  • Dred Scott Decision

    Dred Scott Decision
    Dred Scott was a slave who belived he had rights and should be free. So he decided to sue for his rights as a citizen. When he went to court he was not freed due to him living in Illinois previously and it was not said in the Constitution that African Americans were not considered citizens the were considered property an a persons property could not be taken away from them therefor he was not freed and sent back to he south.

    Attack on Harpers Ferry
    As an act to inspire slaves John Brown and his men planned t capture the arsenal at the army base. Brown and his men however did get captured an killed. John's death was something to look up too for abolitionist. This did though caue tensions to rise in America causing the breaking point.

    The election between Abraham Lincoln and Steven Douglas where Lincoln ended up with win. Abe's goal was to get rid of slavery but when he was elected southern states began to secede.
