It impacted history because it gave the US an important state.

A group of people known as whigs created the union party. Licoln was nominated as the leader of the party. It helped take away slavery because it favored the north.

    The southern states seceded because disagreements in tariffs, slavery, and to protect there rights. South Carolina seceded following Mississippi, Florida, Alabama, Georgia, Louisiana, and Texas. The threat of secession by four more Virginia, Arkansas, Tennessee, and North Carolina. The secession took place in the south because they disagreed with the north. This event caused the american civil war.
