    This declared that all free and slave statesexcluding missouri would be divided by the longitude thirty degree north.The south being slave states and the north being free states

    because of the gold rush of 1849 the area far out west this new state of California petitioned to be a free state. If this went through the balance of free and slave states would be threatened. They decided that they would give Texas 10 million dollars to compinsate and that the new state's inhabintants would vote on wether they were going to be free or slave state.

    Stated that all escaped slaves must be returned to there masters in the south and any one caught helping escaped slaves maybe punishable by death

    the slave dred scott was a slave whose master moved to a free state. he sued in federal court for his freedom.The court denied him of his freedom saying that slaves were veiwed as property and could never have U.S. citizenship.they also said congress couldn't ban slavery in any territory

    The confederate army began to march north in hopes of capturing a stretegic point such as Washington DC. They were going through the small town of Gettysburg when they ran into the union army it was a vicious battle but in the end the union won with 23,000 dead or injured and confederates lost with 28,000 dead or injured. This was the bloodiest battle of the civil war.
