  • Compromise of 1850

    Compromise of 1850
    HENRY CLAY (THE GREAT COMPROMISER) of Kentucky proposed the "Compromise of 1850" on January 20th, 1850. The Compromise was series of measures that were intended to settle the disagreements between free states and slave states. It also entailed California being admitted as a free state for the North,and for the South the Fugitive Slave Law was tightened. It was passed on September 20th, 1850.
  • "Uncle Tom's Cabin," was published

    "Uncle Tom's Cabin," was published
    "Uncle Tom's Cabin," written by HARRIET BEECHER STOWE was published in 1852. It was about the horrors of slavery. The book motivated the North to strengthen their fight against Slavery. Southerners claimed this as an attack, but failed to eliminate the negitivte thoughts of slavery.
  • Raid of Harper's Ferry

    Raid of Harper's Ferry
    JOHN BROWN, a Nothern White Abolitionist, trying to lead a slave rebellion, attacked a federal arsenal in Harper's Ferry, VA. Federal Soldiers caught BROWN in the act. He was then convicted of treason and Hanged on December 2nd, 1859.

    On November 6th, 1860 ABRAHAM LINCOLN was elected president of the United States of America. He did not recieve any electoral votes from the South which made the Southerners feel like they had no political power. This caused some Southern states to leave the Union.
  • First Battle of Bull Run

    First Battle of Bull Run
    In July of 1861, General-in-Chief Winfield Scott was pushed by the public to advance to the South before his troops were properly trained. On the 21st Winfield Scott's forces attacked Confederate troops at Manassas Junction, Virginian, the attack was at first successful, but once Confederate reinforcements arrived the South soon took the Win. This outcome is due to the North fighting unprepared.

    President Lincoln issues an order telling the Union forces to launch an attack against the Confederacy, this order was not followed through by General McClellan. This order being ignored was not a smart move by McClellan.

    On January 1st 1863 Abraham Lincoln gave one of the most well known speeches in the world, the "Emancipation Proclamation." This speech started many disputes since it is the speech that ended slavery. It shows why we fought the war. We fought it because of a slave dispute.

    Battle of Chattanooga
    Union forces start pushing Confederate troops out of Chattanooga. This Win was just the begining of the North's unified, strategic, and smart victory streak.
  • Spotsylvania

    Spotsylvania
    In May of 1864 General Grant and General Lee were in battle at the Spotsylvania Court House. Grant then proclaimed he would fight untill summer if need be. This erge and drive to win helped the North Become victorius in the end.

    President Lincoln was shot by John Wilkes Booth while he was in the theater and died the next day.
