    Harriet Beecher Stowe's fictional exploration of a slave life opened the eyes of northerners. Uncle Toms Cabin was the second most selling book at the time only behind the Bible.

    Bleeding Kansas
    Kansas-Nebraska act of 1854, it allowed settlers in two territories to permit slavery. It barely passes congress. Settlers faught the house party.
  • Lincoln's Election

    Lincoln was elected in 1860. As a republican, he was anti-slavery and struck fear in southerners. On December 20th of that year, the polls closed and South Carolina left the union.
