Stating that slaves only counted as 3/5ths of a person really started the belligerence of slaves and the northern union towards the south. This compromise initiates the inhumane nature of the south. -
Cotton gin
The cotton gin increased slavery (which was not the intention). Slavery expanded, and due to the master's extensively increasing profits, slavery became more widespread and cruel. -
Nat Turner
Nat Turner Massacres 55 whites in one night. This shows the violence of slaves caused by the desperity for their freedom. -
Uncle Tom's Cabin
Harriet beechertowe wrote Uncle Tom's Cabin, spreading the cruelty of slavery. The readers were moved by the harshness of slave owners. Anti-slavery beliefs spread. -
Kansas Nebraska Act
By giving states the ability to vote for slavery, you are giving individuals the power to overthrow northern states and control other human beings. -
Dredd Scott
Dredd Scott was inherited to a new master in a free state. Therefore, he declared himself a free man. The courts would not grant him freedom. They ruled him as property. This showed racism, hoplessness, and cruelty; Further agitating rebelious whites in free states, and slaves. -
Abraham Lincoln elected
Abraham beieng elected started putting the war in motion. The southern states seceded because of Lincoln's no-holding-back personality. He was a strong and opinionated politician. -
Confederate States are Formed
Southern states form together, the confederacy. This will go on to be the enemy of the union in the civil war -
Confederates fire on Fort Sumter, South Carolina
This event officially started the war. The southern confederacy attacked the north, starting battle.
