    3/5 Compromise
    The 3/5 compromise was a major part in leading to the civil war because it was the first time you see the North and South disagree. The north felt that a person could not be considerd 3/5 of a human. The north felt that the were either a human or they were not. The south believed that since they had no rights, and were not allowed to learn to read or write that they were not a full person however they were still human so they were considered 3/5 of a person.
  • The Invention of the Cotton Gin

    The Invention of the Cotton Gin
    Slavery was beggining to slow down until the invention of the cotton gin by Eli Whitney. The cotton gin was a machine that took the seeds out of the cotton mechanically, all that had to be done was to crank the machine. This increased slavery rapidly because more cotton was available and now more cotton could be havested more quickly. This upset the north because they wanted slavery to stop and this invention made slavery expand and become more popular then ever before.

    Missouri Compromise
    The Missouri Compromise was a major event that led to the civil war because it is what started expanding slavery north and westward. The compromise was the newly admitted state of Missouri would become a slave state but Maine would become a free state. This made the North nervuse because they did not want slavery to expand any more then it already had and this severley threatend that. There were many arguments between the north and south over whether it should be a slave state or a free state.
  • Annexation of Texas

    Annexation of Texas
    The annexation of texas was an event that led to even more debates between the north and south. Not only did the south want Texas to be a slave state, but they also wanted to break the state up into five smaller states. This would lead them to obviously having more south states and having total control in government. The north did not allow this to happen however but it just showed the south that the north was overpowering and led the south to feel overwhelmed.

    Fugitive Slave Act
    The fugitive slave act helped lead to the sivil war because it made it illegal for slaves to escape to northern states. And if they did, they were to be returned to the slave owner immediatly. However the southern slave owners would also go north and captue free black men women and children and take them to their slave plantation and there was nothing anyone could do about it. This made the north furious and was a huge event in leading to the civil war.
  • Kansas Nebraska Act

    Kansas Nebraska Act
    This was when the north and south were arguing over the transwest railroad and it also raised the 36 30 line, allowing more room for slave states. This act also nullified the MO compromis and Kansas was admitted as a slave state. This not only made the north mad, but also scared them because they feared that slavery would continue to expand and the United States would turn into a slave country.
  • Dred Scott vs Sanford Case

    Dred Scott vs Sanford Case
    This was a case that opened many peoples eyes about how poorly slaves were treated. Scott was a slave in a southern state but when his owner died, he was sent to Illinois which was a free state. Scott was stioll treated and was still a slave so he went to court to sue because he couldnt be a slave if he was living in a free state. He was told that since he didnt have rights he could not go to court and remained a slave. This made the north extremly mad and was a huge part in leading to the war.
