  • Fort Sumter

    The Union had to resuply the fort, but the south would think that they wanted war. The union didnt want war. They supplied the fort and the south attacked.

  • 1st Bull Run

    This battle took place in Manassas Virginia. The confederacy won. The general for the Union was McDowell and for the south it was Beauregard. This was the first major land battle of the Civil War.

  • Battle of Hampton Roads

    This battle took place in Hampton Roads, Virginia. neither side won. the general for the north was Worden and for the south was Jones.

  • Battle of Shiloh

    This battle took place in Pittsburg Landing, Tennessee. The Union won. the general for the north was Grant and for the south was Johnston. Made people realize that the civil war would not end quickly.

  • 2nd Battle of Bull Run

    This battle took place in Manassas Virginia. The Confederacy won. The general for the Union was Pope and for the south was Jackson. It was the most decisive battle in the northern Virginia campaign for the Confederates

  • Emancipation Proclamation

    The emancipation Proclamation was created to free all slaves in the southern states.

  • Battle of Antietam

    This battle took place in Sharpsburg, Maryland. This battle was considered a military draw. neither side captured anything. The General for the Union was McClellan and the general for the south was Lee. Forced the Confederate to retreat back across the potomac river.

  • Battle of Fredericksburg

    Took place in Fredricksburg, Virginia. The Confederates won. The general for the Union was Burnside and for the south was Lee. Burnside was unsuccessful to finish off the south. He was eventualy fired.

  • Battle of Chancellorsville

    This battle took place in Chancellorsville, Virginia. The confderates won. the general for the Union was Hooker and for the south was Lee. This battle was Lee's greatest victory.

  • Siege of Vicksburg

    This battle was a union victory. the general for the union was Grant and for the south was pemberton. Confederacy was split in half.

  • Battle of Gettysburg

    This battle took place in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania. The union won. The general for the union was Meade and for the south was Lee. South never invaded the north again.

  • Siege of Atlanta

    This battle was a union victory. the general for the north was william sherman and for the south was Hood.

  • Assassination of Abraham Lincoln

    John Wilkes Booth planned to kidnap Lincoln. After some failed attempts he was mad. Lincoln made a speech after the war that he would give voting rights to african americans. John was furious. he wanted to kill the President. On April 9 1865 he saw Lincoln at Ford Theater. He shot the president.

  • Surrender at Appotomax Courthouse

    General Lee surrenderd to Grant. This ended the Civil War.

  • Ratification of the 13th Amendment

    Freed all slaves in the US.
