    This attack happened on April 12th, 1861. Confederate troops set the Fort on fire and the end result was the unification of the North against the South.

    This was the bloodiest single-day battle in American history. There were over 26,000 casualties and the Union side had won this battle. However McClellan was removed from command after not going after the battered Confederates.

    This was published by Abraham Lincoln on January 1, 1863. It was a proclamation stating that all slaves should be free. People now had a purpose to fight, despite the struggle, to free the slaves.

    William Tecumseh Sherman led this march and it started from Georgia. They burned everything in their path and the end result was 25,000 former slaves turning to help the North fight the war against Lee.

    On April 9, 1865 Lee and Grant met at a private home to arrange a surrender for the Confederates. The terms were that Confederate soldiers were to be sent home with three days of rations. Confederate resistance had collapsed within a month.
