    The act passed stated that all fugitive slaves had to be returned to their masters. Anybody caught aiding or hiding a slave can get up to 6 months in prison. The North thought it was them extending the reach of their slavery.

    Fort Sumter a federal fort was attacked by the South when the Union attempted to resupply it. They were badly hurt and out of food so they surrendered the fort to the South. President Lincoln raised an army and the war had begun.
