At the three day battle in Getttysburg, PA, the Confederacy is severly defeated, but are able to retreat back to the South. Gen. Meade is relieved of his duty as Union general because he fails to pursue Lee and crush him. Greatest battle of the Civil War. -
Assassination of Abraham Lincoln
While at Ford's Theater, Lincoln is shot in the head by Confederate sympathizer, John Wilkes Booth. Lincoln dies the next morning around 7:30 am in the home across the street from the theater.
