    It was ta belief that american settlers were destined to expand the country. this could be a factor to the start of the civil war because there could have been conflict between new lands on if or if not they would allow slaves.

    protect industries in the northern United States which were being driven out of business by low-priced imported goods by taxing them
  • Nat turners slave rebelion

    slaves were rebeling and killing more than 100 people
  • The Amistad

    this was a United States Supreme Court case resulting from the rebellion of Africans on board the Spanish schooner La Amistad in 1839. It was an unusual freedom suit that involved international issues and parties, as well as United States law.
  • Uncle Tom's Cabin

    this was a book about the reality of being a slave and how christian love can overcome something as destructive as enslavement. this was also a cause of the civil war because it gave people a reason to fight for the slaves freedom.
  • Bleeding Kansas

    this was Kansas fighting over wether to be a slave state or a non-slave state. this was a factor of the civil war because whatever the state decided to go towards helped that side because they had another state to fight what they want.
  • confederate states secession

    The southern states (confederacy) had seperated themselves from the northern sates (union). this was because the union was against slavery and the confederacy was supporting slavery. this was a main cause of the civil war.
  • 1860 presidential election

    Abraham Lincol won the 1860 election controling 18 out of the 29 states at the time. this was a big factor to the civil war because Abraham lincoln was against slavery and southern states did not like that.
  • Battle of Fort Sumter

    South carolina demanded that the US army abandon its facilities in Charleston Harbor.
